IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois possesses “all the tools” to dominate the division, according to his promoter, Frank Warren. Following Dubois’ impressive five-round knockout of Anthony Joshua on Saturday, Warren is keen for him to challenge WBO, WBA, and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch.
Dubois faced Usyk in August 2023, with the Ukrainian securing a ninth-round stoppage in that contest. At just 27 years old, Dubois was elevated to IBF champion after Usyk vacated the title in June, shortly after becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years by defeating Tyson Fury.
“The fight I would like to see him in now is Usyk again,” Warren told BBC 5 Live. “He is a different Daniel Dubois—more mature physically and mentally. He will continue to grow stronger, and I believe he has everything needed to take over this division.”
While there is a rematch clause in Dubois’ contract regarding Joshua, Warren clarified that it doesn’t apply to them, though they would consider another bout.
Usyk was present at Wembley, briefly stepping away from his training camp as he prepares for a rematch against Fury on December 21.
The first fight between Dubois and Usyk was marred by controversy in the fifth round when Dubois knocked Usyk down, only for the referee to rule it a low blow, giving Usyk a lengthy recovery period.
“Dubois lost his composure after that incident,” Warren said. “He was younger then and lacked the experience to handle it. But now he is a completely different fighter, as we saw on Saturday night.”
Joshua, reflecting after his defeat, reiterated that he has no plans to retire. “We came up short, but it’s important to focus on the positives,” the 34-year-old stated in a social media video. “What we have achieved over 11 years has been phenomenal. This journey is far from over, and I’ve got a lot more to contribute to the sport.”
