Update Thailand draw Korea, China for World Cup qualifiers

On Thursday, Thailand was assigned to the difficult Group C of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 for the 2026 Fifa World Cup and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

South Korea and China are in the group, with the fourth team in the pool being the winner of a play-off between Singapore and Guam.

The 36 countries that took part were divided into nine groups of four teams each. Between November 2023 and June 2024, they will compete in a home-and-away round-robin format.

Ten teams from the phase will advance to Round 1 of the Preliminary Joint Qualification.

Because the 2026 World Cup will have 48 teams for the first time, eight and a half berths are available.

Thai team manager Nualphan Lamsam noted that the War Elephants had a difficult draw because “South Korea and China are among the top teams in Asia.” But we shall give it our all.”

Henderson has finished his move.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has finalized his transfer to Al-Ettifaq of the Saudi Pro League, both clubs announced on Thursday.

After 12 years at Anfield, the England midfielder is the latest big-name star to leave the Premier League for Saudi Arabia.

“We can confirm that @JHenderson has completed a transfer to Al-Ettifaq,” Liverpool said on social media.

“A leader,” wrote Al-Ettifaq. A fighter. We’re overjoyed to have him.”

The 33-year-old has agreed to a contract for up to £700,000 per week. Liverpool will receive a first payment of £12 million from the Saudi club.AFP/Bangkok Post
