Donald Trump, a former US president, has been charged with handling secret information after leaving office.
He commented on Truth Social, “I never considered it imaginable that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States.
It is Mr. Trump’s second indictment; he is vying to represent the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election.
The indictment’s specifics are not known.
According to a source cited by the BBC’s US partner CBS News, the indictment was related to the papers case and included a number of accusations.
The indictment reportedly contained at least seven charges, according to CNN and ABC News in the US.
An indictment makes it possible to prosecute a suspect for the crimes they are accused of.
The Department of Justice has not provided any information regarding an indictment, despite attempts by the BBC to reach them.
Trump claimed his innocence in a post on Truth Social, adding: “This is definitely a horrible day for the United States of America. Although our nation is rapidly and seriously deteriorating, by working together, we can “Make America Great Again!”
In April, Mr. Trump, the first former president to face criminal charges, entered a not guilty plea to 34 counts of falsifying company documents relating to a hush-money payment to a porn star.
Next year, he will stand trial in New York for that incident.
