Tottenham Hotspur bounced back from an early deficit to defeat Qarabag 2-1 in the Carabao Cup, securing their place in the fourth round.
The match began with Qarabag taking an unexpected lead when Brandon Thomas-Asante scored just past the hour mark. However, Spurs responded late with two goals to seize victory.
Djed Spence, introduced at halftime, equalized in the 88th minute after a clever pass from Dejan Kulusevski. Moments later, Brennan Johnson scored the winner with a deft touch that left the Qarabag goalkeeper with no chance.
Post-Match Reactions
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou expressed frustration with his team’s slow start: “We began the game too sloppily. We needed to start with high tempo, but it seemed the delay affected us. However, our reaction after that was commendable, and we continued to press even with 10 men.”
On the performance of striker Dominic Solanke, who had been on a short goal drought, Postecoglou said, “He has been fantastic beyond just scoring goals; his link-up play is crucial. He’s still working his way back to full fitness.”
Gurbanov Expresses Frustration
Qarabag manager Gurban Gurbanov voiced his dissatisfaction over logistical issues that impacted his team. “We were caught in traffic for more than two and a half hours, which shouldn’t happen. It affected our players, but I won’t take anything away from Tottenham; they are a good team.”
With this win, Tottenham progresses further in the Carabao Cup and will be looking forward to the next round as they continue their campaign for silverware.
