Australia’s rising star, Tim Tszyu, is set to return to the United States this August for a highly anticipated bout against the undefeated knockout specialist, Vergil Ortiz Jnr. The fight announcement comes just days after Tszyu’s world title hopes for this year were dashed.
Tszyu will feature on a card headlined by boxing superstar Terence Crawford and organized by the influential His Excellency Turki Alalshikh. Crawford, having unified the welterweight division, is now eyeing gold in the super welterweight category against WBA champ Israil Madrimov.
Ortiz Jnr boasts an impressive record of 20 wins, all by knockout, making him a formidable opponent. The fight was confirmed following discussions between No Limit and His Excellency.
Tszyu sees this bout as a “modern day classic,” echoing Ortiz Jnr’s sentiments from earlier in the year. Ortiz Jnr, after his first-round TKO against Frederick Lawson, expressed his desire to fight Tszyu, calling him a formidable opponent.
Initially, Tszyu was expected to face Sebastian Fundora in a rematch, but with the recent developments, either Crawford or Madrimov might be next in line for ‘The Towering Inferno.’
No Limit CEO George Rose praised Tszyu’s warrior spirit, emphasizing his commitment to taking on challenging fights. Rose expressed confidence in Tszyu’s abilities against Ortiz Jnr, highlighting the risks and opportunities the fight presents.
With the super welterweight division heating up, Tszyu aims to showcase his skills and prove he’s the best in the division. The upcoming bout promises to be a thrilling showdown between two rising boxing stars.
