Three Dead, 14 Injured in Horror Crash

Lampang smash

Three people were killed and another 19 were injured when the van they were traveling in crashed into the back of a truck in Lampang early this morning, Oct. 8.

The accident occurred on Pahonyothin Road (Highway 1) between the 671-672 kilometer markers on Doi Tat in Na Saeng, Ko Kha at around 1 a.m.

The Chiang Mai-registered van was transporting students from the Northern Mubankhru Technological College in Lamphun to the school’s Bangkok campus when the accident occurred.

The driver, Techinpotch Phothong, survived the accident and was taken to Ko Kha District hospital alongside the injured students. Six people, including the driver, were later transferred to Lampang Hospital and were described as being in a serious condition.

A witness to the accident who crashed their car trying to avoid it said that the area was very dark and it’s likely the van didn’t see the 10-wheel truck ahead of him.

The driver of the truck, Somyot Thongsri told police that he was traveling southward in the left-hand lane when he heard the van crash into the back of his vehicle.
