Thailand’s government authorized an additional public holiday on July 31 to provide most workers a six-day break in an effort to boost tourism and private consumption.
Most public and private institutions will be closed from July 28 to August 2, according to a statement issued by Government Deputy Spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek on Tuesday (July 25).
A weekly cabinet meeting, which is usually conducted on Tuesday, would be rescheduled, she said, adding that the Bank of Thailand and the Labour Ministry have been requested to consider declaring July 31 a bank and labor holiday.
On holidays, the country’s financial markets typically follow the central bank’s directive.
