There were 31 more Covid-19 fatalities and 3,525 new cases registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Tuesday morning.

There were 3,513 cases in the general population and 12 among prison inmates.

On Monday, 6,109 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 2,148,766 Covid-19 cases, with 2,061,374 complete recoveries so far.

The vast majority of the Covid cases and deaths have occurred since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began.

The death toll stood at 20,903 during the third wave and 20,997 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was the 23,418 on Aug 13.

Bangkok logged one more death while other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded seven more deaths – in Chon Buri (2), Phetchaburi (1), Chanthaburi (1), Prachin Buri (1), Saraburi (1) and Suphan Buri (1).

The Northeast had seven fatalities – in Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Kalasin (2), Si Sa Ket (1) and Ubon Ratchathani (1).

The South reported nine more deaths – in Phatthalung (2), Surat Thani (2), Krabi (1), Trang (1), Pattani (1), Songkhla (1) and Satun (1).

The North registered seven fatalities – in Chiang Mai (4), Phitsanulok (1), Sukhothai (1) and Uttaradit (1).

The 3,525 new cases included 3,503 local infections and 10 imported cases.

Of the local infections, 3,448 were confirmed at hospitals and 55 via mass testing. 

Bangkok had 810 new cases, followed by 271 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 162 in in Chon Buri, 159 in Songkhla, 153 in Surat Thani, 110 in Pattani, 95 each in Chiang Mai and Nakhon Sawan, 93 in Samut Prakan and 80 in Trang.

The 10 imported cases were from Russia (2), the United Kingdom (1), Sri Lanka (1), Qatar (1), Germany (3), Congo (1) and Switzerland (1).

On Monday 66,395 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 1,253 seriously ill patients and 328 dependent on ventilators.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 447,937 in 24 hours to 266.69 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 5,392 to 5.27 million. The United States had the most cases at 50.14 million, up 88,380, and the most deaths at 810,246, up 672.
