Thai Airways wants the deal to involve the transfer of six Airbus A380s to one of the aircraft manufacturers. Thai Airways is poised to start the process of acquiring up to 30 wide-body aircraft.
The Thai flag carrier is in the process of releasing a Request for Proposals (RFP) as it seeks to purchase up to 30 twin-aisle aircraft to fly both long- and short-haul flights out of the nation.
According to Aviation Daily, which spoke with the airline’s CEO Chai Eamsiri at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Istanbul, Turkey, on June 4, 2023, Thai Airways wants to sell six of its idle Airbus A380 aircraft as part of the order negotiations. Thai Airways Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Korakot Chatasingha stated in November 2022 that the carrier was “carefully studying” whether to bring the six planes back.
As you are aware, it is expensive to bring them and put them back into operation, according to Chatasingha at the time. When Thai Airways files the RFP for new aircraft, the procedure may lead to an order coming in months later, with the wide-body jet set to renew and assist the airline in growing its fleet.
Six A380 aircraft are currently in storage; four are at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK), while the other two are at U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya International Airport (UTP).
