Thai Man Wields Knife Over Pad Thai Order Error in Chon Buri

CHON BURI, Thailand – April 5, 2025 — A 32-year-old man sparked a scare at a convenience store in Chon Buri after brandishing a knife in a rage over a pad Thai order that included Chinese chives—despite his repeated requests for them to be left out.

The incident unfolded in the Na Pa subdistrict of Mueang Chon Buri when police were alerted to a disturbance involving a man with a weapon and a trail of blood. Responding officers from Mueang Chon Buri Police Station found the man, identified as Thakorn, holding a foot-long knife and suffering from a bleeding leg wound.

Authorities quickly de-escalated the situation, disarmed him, and called in the Thammarat Samaneerat Foundation rescue unit for medical assistance. Thakorn was given first aid before being transported to Chon Buri Hospital for further treatment.

According to his statement to police, the confrontation began after he ordered pad Thai without Chinese chives, a request he says was ignored by the vendor. Enraged after discovering the unwanted ingredient in his meal, Thakorn threw the dish away, sparking a heated exchange when the vendor still demanded payment.

Frustration mounted, fueled by hunger and the feeling of being ignored. In the chaos, Thakorn reportedly injured himself—though he did not physically threaten anyone, only waving the knife and shouting.

His employer, Thanakornpoj, expressed shock at the episode, especially since it occurred on payday, a typically positive moment for workers. He emphasized that Thakorn had no known issues with drugs and had always appeared stable, leaving the cause of his outburst uncertain.

The case draws comparisons to another recent knife-related incident in Surin province, where a monk suffering a suspected mental health crisis threatened locals at a temple earlier this year.

Police are continuing their investigation but have not yet confirmed whether mental health factors played a role in Thakorn’s actions.
