Storms wreaking havoc across the Kingdom

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has assured it is ready to provide assistance to any areas severely affected by heavy rains with Surat Thani the latest province to be impacted by a typhoon. Several homes in Pun Pin district of Surat Thani were damaged after a typhoon lashed the area around Kilometer 18 of the Asia Highway. Homes in Saeng Dee Villa village had their roofs heavily damaged by the storm and many trees in the area were uprooted. Two buildings owned by Eternity Grand Logistics Company also reported damage. Initial reports have indicated both injuries and casualties following the harsh weather.

Electricity poles in Pak Panang district of Nakhon Si Thammarat were toppled following a storm that brought heavy winds. A total 15 poles were counted fallen with damage estimates exceeding 2 million baht and power outages across a large area. Authorities are quickly erecting new poles to restore power for citizens.

In Yala province, authorities are assessing the damage left by a storm in Raman district. They have so far identified 13 homes damaged, most with their roofs completely torn off. The strong winds also severely affected rubber farms with some trees falling onto cars and blocking roadways.

Municipal workers in Nong Khai province have had to join forces with soldiers and other relevant agencies to pass out tiles and metal sheets after as many as 214 homes reported having their roofs torn off by high winds. They are also contributing to the repair effort to hurry residents back into their abodes.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has reported that 3,999 homes across 41 provinces were severely impacted by storms between April 23 and 28 with one death resulting. It is coordinating 24 hour vigilance at this time against more inclement weather.

Royal Thai Army Commander and Secretary-General of the NCPO Gen Chalermchai Sittisat has ordered security units across the nation provide assistance to those affected by storms, pointing out more rains and winds are expected in many areas of the nation this week.
