Srettha Thavisin, a prime ministerial candidate for the Pheu Thai Party, was elected as Thailand’s 30th prime minister, breaking a political impasse that had persisted for than 100 days.
The former real estate tycoon received votes in the joint session on Tuesday after many hours of discussion.
He simply needed 374 votes.
Senators and Members of Parliament each contributed.. (votes)… of the total.
A coalition led by Pheu Thai and including 11 parties, which together hold 314 seats in the lower house, proposed Srettha.
Before today’s PM election, the ministry positions were assigned.
In its first Cabinet meeting after taking office, the Pheu Thai-led administration promised to propose a plan for changing the current Constitution. It asserts that Thailand’s current issue is the 2017 charter.
