According to reports, two men in suits and a lady in a dress looted a famous jeweller’s in the trendy heart of Paris, making off with products worth millions of euros.
The trio, armed with a silenced weapon, went to the Piaget store in the affluent Rue de la Paix, a stone’s throw from the Opera in the city’s second district, at midday.
A police source informed the publication Le Parisien that employees were forced to the ground.
The robbers then ran away on foot.
Prosecutors think the trio stole exquisite diamonds worth €10m-€15m (£8.5m-£13m) while raiding the shop displays. There were no reported injuries.
The case has been taken up by France’s special BRB police squad, which specializes in armed robbery and burglary. It is one of numerous high-profile investigations into organized gangs and hostage-taking in Paris.
Only three months ago, another smart-fronted jewelry store 100m (330ft) down the street was targeted. On a Saturday afternoon in broad daylight, three armed robbers rode away on two motorbikes from the Bulgari store in Place Vendôme.
Both Rue de la Paix and Place Vendôme are well-known for their high-end jewelry stores. In contrast to the Bulgari heist, the robbers at the Piaget store were well-dressed.
According to French media, two males in grey suits and a woman in a green dress and black trousers were involved.
According to Sandrine Marcot of France’s jewellery and watches union, the frequency of raids is concerning: “Even though the level has dramatically decreased over the years, the number of robberies and burglaries has been increasing since the end of Covid in the last couple of years.”
Italy and Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner were arrested less than two weeks ago in their Paris residence after their attackers stole jewelry, watches, and other luxury items.
