School roof in Phichit province collapses killing 7 students seeking shelter from the rain

Officials in northern Thailand confirmed Tuesday that a metal roof on a school’s activity center collapsed on Monday, killing seven people, four of whom were children.

According to the public relations office in Phichit province, 300 kilometers (185 miles) north of Bangkok, the most recent victim was a 6-year-old boy who passed away late Monday night in a hospital following the collapse at the Wat Nern Por elementary school.

According to a Facebook post from the school’s official disaster preparedness department, several students had entered the activity center to seek shelter from the rain when the roof collapsed, leaving 18 people hospitalized.

Four boys, two parents, and one member of the school’s cleaning staff perished, according to Patcharin Siri, a member of the province Public Relations Department personnel.

This week, there will be a lot of rain in northern Thailand, according to the meteorological department’s warning. Additionally, the rainy season got underway on Monday.
