Visa checks reveal ANOTHER German fugitive in Thailand

Police have arrested a German national who overstayed his visa and was found to be wanted in his home country on charges of theft and forgery involving about €460,000 (about 16 million baht).

Sascha Arnold Durst, 43, was detained this week in Phetchabun for overstaying his tourist visa, acting immigration chief Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chingduang said on Friday.

Police later learned he was named on an Interpol red notice and faces three charges of theft and one of document forgery in Germany.

The total alleged damage was equal to about 16 million baht

The man has been living in Thailand for three years after entering on a tourist visa.

He married a Thai woman and ran a bar in Chaiyaphum province, which he recently closed before fleeing to Phetchabun.

He will be sent back to Germany to face the charges against him.
