Pattaya City has finished its effort to improve the scenery of the world-famous Pattaya Walking Street by removing all traffic-obstructing overhanging signs. Low-hanging signage had been a problem on Walking Street for a long time, according to Pattaya City officials, because they not only irritated tourists but also posed a hazard to fire trucks and emergency vehicles.
As a result of this problem, the city has been working hard over the last few months to address and correct the situation. In addition to removing obstructive billboards off the roadway, the city has asked businesses to position their signs parallel to the buildings, beginning at the Walking roadway entry and extending to the Bali Hai Pier.
The street has now been cleansed of unattractive signs as of August 2nd, a feat commended by local officials. The procedure is also thought to be useful for forthcoming utility pole dismantling plans in early October of this year.
However, the Pattaya News reports that other business owners were angered by the sign deletions, claiming that it made the street too “dark and dull.” They also argued that it made finding certain sites and venues difficult for guests.
Pattaya City will most likely fix the lighting issues in the future once utility poles and remaining overhead electrical lines are removed.
According to Pattaya City officials, all removed signs were restored to their owners.
