The Northern Meteorological Center has warned provinces in the upper parts of Thailand to be cautious of weather conditions due to summer storms until 19 March.
Northern Meteorological Center Director Methee Mahayotsanun revealed a high pressure from China has prevailed over the upper parts of Thailand and the South China Sea during a warm climate period, causing summer storms, with possible thunderstorms, strong winds and hail in some areas which might cause damage to property.
He said members of the public are advised to refrain from staying in open places, under big trees, and near structurally instable billboards during thunderstorms.
On 18-19 March, westerly winds are forecast to prevail over the northern region of the country, intensifying the summer storms in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaengphet, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit, and Phetchabun.
The general public are advised to closely follow news and information from the Meteorological Department. Farmers should also be cautious of possible damage to their farms and goods.
