Police presence stepped up on Koh SiChang after the rape and murder of German tourist.
Police presence has been stepped up on the Thai island of Koh Sichang after a German tourist was raped and murdered.
But Thai officials say the island remains safe for tourists as a suspect has been arrested and charged.
The victim was named as Miriam Beelte, 27, who was visiting the island on a trip from Pattaya.
The woman’s body was discovered by another tourist on an isolated hill which was partly hidden underneath bracken.
A local man has reportedly admitted the offence and has been charged with rape, murder and concealing a corpse.
Koh Sichang is a relatively quiet island which receives far fewer foreign tourists than many Thai islands but is a popular weekend getaway for Thais.
