Police conducted a meeting with motorbike taxi drivers, including both traditional and app-based operators, on June 28, 2024, to address road safety issues.
Led by Pol. Col. Patikorn Sornchai, Deputy Police Commander of Chonburi Province, the meeting was held at the Baron Beach Hotel as part of the “Road Safety Improvement Project” led by the Royal Thai Police.
The primary objective of the initiative was to promote traffic discipline among motorcycle drivers, focusing specifically on motorbike taxi drivers, also known as “Win” drivers, and app-based operators in Pattaya. The morning session of the meeting centered on presenting accident statistics and guidelines for traffic law enforcement to the drivers. In the afternoon, group discussions were held to facilitate positive relationships between the two groups of drivers, minimizing conflicts and disagreements with or among customers. A recent incident involving a physical altercation between motorbike taxi drivers and a Russian tourist near Central Mall in Pattaya underscored the importance of improving driver-customer interactions.
Pol. Col. Patikorn highlighted that the Road Safety Improvement Project is being rolled out in five locations: Thung Maha Mek Police Station and Chokchai Police Station in Bangkok, Pattaya Police Station in Chonburi, Pluak Daeng Police Station in Rayong, and Pak Kret Police Station in Nonthaburi.
