According to authorities, a Vietnamese national was arrested on Saturday for sending low-quality products to hundreds of customers on a “cash on delivery” basis.
On Friday, the suspect, Nguyen Van Viet, 40, was apprehended at a residence in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang area.
During the operation, authorities discovered 468 parcels that had been returned by the recipients, as well as over 5,000 low-quality or counterfeit electrical goods and products like as wristwatches, vacuum cleaners, blenders, and power banks. The entire estimated value of the merchandise was 600,000 baht.
According to Pol Maj-General Theeradej Thammasutee, head investigating officer of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, the suspect allegedly ran an internet store that shipped low-quality products to clients, many of which were rejected.
This business has caused many people problems, and several have filed police complaints.” Some did not bother because the amount of money lost was insignificant. “It’s not a serious crime, but we [police] have to deal with it because it bothers people,” Theeradej explained.
The defendant is accused of public embezzlement, fraud, inserting incorrect information into a computer system, and money laundering.
The man has rejected all claims, alleging that the business was created by another Vietnamese man who invited him to join in the middle of last year. According to authorities, the suspect refused to identify the source of the false, low-quality goods in his possession.
