Phuket Task Force Takes Legal Action Against 400 Foreign Nationals

The special task force in Phuket has taken legal action against over 400 foreigners following a series of incidents involving visitors. Phuket governor Sophon Suwannarat confirmed the establishment of the center a month ago after notable events, such as a Swiss man assaulting a Thai doctor on Yamu Beach. Nearly 100 foreigners have had their visas revoked for public safety reasons.

Recently, an Austrian visitor, Gernot Leoben, was arrested for physically assaulting a taxi driver, prompting a minor car accident. The driver, Wutthiporn Chaimongkol, reported that Leoben aggressively grabbed him after being told not to smoke in the taxi, leading to a loss of control and collision with another vehicle. Following the incident, US ambassador Robert Godec met with the Phuket governor to discuss safety measures for tourists and reinforce the importance of adhering to Thai laws and local customs.
