Pattaya-Map Ta Phut motorway extension toll fee takes effect from Monday

The Department of Highways announced on its Facebook page on Friday that toll fee would be collected for using an extension of the motorway connecting Pattaya city in Chonburi province with Map Ta Phut in Rayong province – from next Monday.

The department explained that this extension is a completely closed system, with assistance for travellers around the clock.

The toll rate of the motorway depends on the type of vehicle and the distance: four-wheelers — from Bt10 to Bt130; six-wheelers — from Bt15 to Bt210; and over six-wheeler — Bt20 to Bt305.

Journey time from the capital to the eastern seaboard will be just one and a half hours.

Piyapong Jiwatnakunphaisan of the Highways’ Department said that since the opening of the extension daily usage had been increasing with 6,000 – 8,000 vehicles. About 10,000 have been on the road during long holiday weekends.

He expects with the two new booths opening that usage will continue to increase.
