Ex boyfriend accidentally assaults Bolt Driver instead of passenger

Mr. Pairat Songsod, a 40-year-old driver for the Bolt ride-hailing service, lodged a formal complaint with Pol. Lt. Phuttharak Sonkhamhan, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at the Pattaya Police Station on Thursday, April 4, 2024. His complaint detailed an incident where he was assaulted by the ex-boyfriend of his passenger, a 24-year-old woman identified only as Ms. Kulrat.

Mr. Pairat recounted that he had parked his running car outside a bar on Chaiyapruek 1 Road, waiting to pick up Ms. Kulrat, a passenger he had not met previously but who had booked a ride through the Bolt app on that fateful day. As Ms. Kulrat was entering the vehicle, an unidentified young man abruptly opened the car door and physically attacked her.

Concerned for Ms. Kulrat’s safety, Mr. Pairat swiftly secured the car doors. This action seemed to incite the attacker, who mistakenly assumed Mr. Pairat was Ms. Kulrat’s new romantic interest, as per the woman’s account. Subsequently, the aggressor used a helmet to shatter the driver-side window and then menaced Mr. Pairat with a sharp iron bar. Fearing for his well-being, Mr. Pairat swiftly drove away from the location and promptly reported the incident to the authorities.

According to Ms. Kulrat, the assailant was her former partner. Despite ending their two-year relationship two months prior, the ex-boyfriend had persistently stalked and harassed her. Ms. Kulrat had previously filed a police report against him due to his unwelcome behavior.
