More than 18.7 million people had registered as of 6am on Monday (March 30) for the government’s Bt5,000 cash handout programme, the Ministry of Finance said.
The government is offering eligible citizens whose livelihoods were impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak Bt5,000 a month for three months.
The director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office, Lavaron Sangsnit, said that the registration results will be announced from April 4, while the registration website www.เราไม่ทิ้งกัน.com (we do not leave anyone behind) will remain open until no more people register.
The programme aims to provide some relief to those who are not insured under social security. To be eligible, candidates must be Thai nationals, agedm over 18, be a self-employed, freelance or non-permanent employee who has been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
Students, government officials, farmers, employers, as well as employees who are insured under Section 33 of the Social Security Act are not eligible under this campaign.
The number of people who have registered has exceeded by over six times the ministry’s initial estimate of three million people.
