Motorbike Taxi does a runner with 5,000 baht from Indian tourist in Pattaya
Pattaya is well know for snatch and grabs, but the latest involves a motorbike taxi driver who snatched the cash as the Indian customer was paying.
A young Indian tourist had only 20 baht left in his pocket after a motorcycle taxi driver snatched 5,000 baht from him while he was about to pay for his service after a ride in Pattaya, Chon Buri, early on Tuesday (Sept 20).
The incident occurred at about 2.30am in front of a hotel in Soi 9, South Pattaya.
Pattaya police rushed to the spot on being informed of the theft. They found the Indian tourist, Vivek Yadav, 28, standing there, crying over the loss of his money.
He said through an interpreter that on returning to the hotel on the motorcycle taxi and while he was about to pay for the fare, the motorcycle taxi driver snatched 5,000 baht from his hand and sped away.
The Indian tourist, who kept crying, said he wanted the hotel to show the footage of its security cameras so that the police could identify the snatcher and take back his money. He said he had only 20 baht left in his pocket, which was not enough for even a meal.
Somrit Naitip, 17, a student, said he witnessed the incident while walking out from a convenience store. He saw the Indian and the motorcycle driver exchanged heated words before the latter snatched the money from the tourist’s hand and sped away on his motorcycle.
The Indian then filed a complaint with the tourist police and asked for help.
