A devastating fire at a food-processing building under construction in central Taiwan has claimed the lives of nine individuals. The incident occurred on Thursday in Taichung, where social media footage captured dark smoke and flames erupting from one end of the five-story structure.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, local authorities indicated that it spread rapidly due to a significant amount of foam panels stored on-site. Reports stated that one victim died after jumping from the third floor, while the remaining victims were located by firefighters during an extensive search that continued into the evening. Nineteen people were successfully rescued from the blaze.
The building was designed for the PX Mart supermarket chain.
