Manchester City could find themselves in deeper trouble following new claims suggesting they might face more than the 115 charges already leveled against them.
Back in February 2023, City was charged with 115 breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules, covering the period from 2009 to 2018. This has put the reigning champions under intense scrutiny, with fans eagerly awaiting the trial expected to take place later this year.
Throughout the process, City has denied all charges. However, financial expert and former City advisor Stefan Borson suggests the club might be facing even more than the reported 115 charges. Speaking on the “We’re Not Really Here – A Manchester City Podcast” on the BBC, Borson mentioned: “115 is actually, straightaway, 130. But because of an early error from the Premier League and early media briefings, it became 115. These are the most serious allegations.”
Borson reiterated this point on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Pedantic point (not for everyone): ‘The fact that ‘115 CHARGES’ is trumpeted means it likely came from the PL’s media briefing. Because it isn’t 115 on any normal counting… it is 129 or 130 (technical 2009/10 point).”
Adding to City’s woes, Rui Pinto, the football hacker who leaked details about the club’s finances in 2018, has threatened to release more information to prove their guilt. Pinto, currently under witness protection, claims to have handed over millions of incriminating documents to authorities in France and Germany. “The Man City releases showed amounts of money being paid into by the club that were not mentioned to the football authorities,” Pinto said at the OffShore-Alert Marbella Conference. “I have now handed five hard drives to French and German authorities with millions of documents, including more on City and I have described what is on each.”
