A 52-year-old Thai man who stabbed a 50-year-old Thai woman to death in a public street in broad daylight yesterday morning in Pattaya has allegedly admitted to the crime and has been identified as the woman’s ex-husband.
The suspect has been identified to the press as 52-year-old Mr. Boonlert Khunmoon of Banglamung. The victim was 50-year-old Miss Sudjai Rodmanee and has been identified as Mr. Boonlert’s ex-wife.
The incident took place near the Chonburi Land Office in Pattaya mid-morning yesterday in which Mr. Boonlert followed Miss Sudjai via motorbike to a street near the land office in South Pattaya. Mr. Boonlert allegedly told Pattaya Police, led by Police Chief Khemmarin Pisamai, that he had been attempting to reconcile with her and wanted to repair their broken relationship.
According to Mr. Boonlert’s statement, Miss Sudjai rejected his attempts to reconcile and apologize and he became enraged, using a weapon described as a lancet to the press to stab her several times in the street before fleeing. Nearby witnesses called police who pursued the suspect to Soi Mai Mai Kaen 16 where he surrendered to Pattaya Police and was described as cooperative.
Mr. Boonlert has allegedly admitted to all charges presented to him by Pattaya Law Enforcement and plans to plead guilty to murder. He remains in police custody pending further legal action and court appearances.
