Man killed, another hurt in big bike-pickup crash

A man was killed and another was hurt when a big bike collided with a pickup truck coming on the wrong side of the road in Muang district late Friday evening.

The fatal crash occurred at kilometre maker 146 in tambon Khamin, said Pol Col Manas Phoon-in, chief of Khamin police station in Muang district, who was reported at around 6.30pm on Friday.

Police and rescue workers rushing to the scene found the pickup truck with Sakon Nakhon licence plates and the damaged big bike with an Ubon Ratchathani licence plates.

Pickup truck driver Ekkphan Tanumas, 27, sustained head injuries. Big-bike rider Pranop Suksa-gnuan, 25,  was seriously injured with a broken right arm and head injuries and rescue workers were unable to save his life.

Witnesses told police that the motorcycle was heading to downtown Muang district when the pickup truck came in the opposite direction from a U-turn spot, about 10 metres away.

The force of the crash threw the motorycle rider 10m from his vehicle.

Police were investigating.
