Manchester City have signed Brazilian winger Savinho from French side Troyes in a deal worth €40m (£30.8m). The 20-year-old impressed on loan at Girona last season, helping them finish third in La Liga. Both Girona and Troyes are part of the City Football Group.
Savinho expressed his excitement about joining City, calling them “the best team in the world” and praising manager Pep Guardiola as “one of the greatest coaches ever.” He cited the club’s environment and his passion for playing joyful, attacking football as key reasons for his decision.
Savinho, also known as Savio, began his career at Atletico Mineiro before moving to Troyes in 2022. Though he didn’t play for Troyes, he spent the 2022-23 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven and found success at Girona last season, scoring 11 goals and making 10 assists in all competitions. He earned his first senior call-up for Brazil in March, debuting against England and scoring his first international goal against Paraguay in the Copa America group stage.
City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, stated: “He has a big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond. We are confident in his ability, and with Pep’s guidance, he can develop even further. He has already shown his quality and technical ability and is an exciting addition to our attacking options.”
