In a quick operation, Chonburi police raided 20 locations in 10 districts in an effort to bust an alleged illicit money-lending ring that was linked to drugs, weapons, and high interest rates.
Following a directive from the Commander of the 2nd Region Chonburi Provincial Police, the operation was conducted on Saturday.
In the province of Chonburi, more than 50 police officers were sent to search 20 targets spread across 10 districts. The main goal of the operation was to shut down two allegedly illicit money-lending operations.
A total of 38 automobiles and 16 motorcycles were seized during the operation. Ms. Chulikorn, 49, and Mr. Thanatchon, 27, two suspects who were only given their first names by the police, were detained and charged with operating a lending business without a license, making loans with interest rates that were too high, and setting up pawnshops without authority.
Additionally, police recovered a blank gun with two magazines and five rounds from Mr. Thanatchon. The Huai Yai Police Station received the two suspects so that judicial proceedings could begin there.
