Liverpool FC has confirmed that club legend Alan Hansen has been discharged from the hospital following a serious illness. Earlier this month, the Anfield icon was admitted due to a severe health issue, but there is now positive news regarding his recovery.
The club shared a message on behalf of the Hansen family: “Alan has been discharged from hospital today to continue his recovery at home. Alan, Janet, Adam, Lucy, and family would like to thank everybody for their wonderful messages of love and support. It has been overwhelming and has helped enormously.”
Graeme Souness, speaking on talkSPORT, provided further positive updates on Hansen’s condition, noting that Hansen sounded fabulous and was on the road to a full recovery. Souness humorously added that Hansen’s recovery seemed assured as he was back to his usual playful banter, teasing Souness over the phone.
“I was speaking to his son Adam and his wife Janet, and I’d been phoning his phone number. I get on the train yesterday, and my phone rang – it was Big Al. I was hesitant to answer, but I called back, and he sounded great. He’s been in a difficult place, but it sounds like he’s back,” Souness shared.
Alan Hansen played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s success during the late 1970s and 1980s under manager Bob Paisley, a period considered the golden era in the club’s history. He became club captain in 1985 when Kenny Dalglish succeeded Joe Fagan as manager, holding the position for five years. Hansen also represented Scotland 26 times.
Beyond his illustrious playing career, Hansen is renowned for his sports broadcasting career, having worked with the BBC for 22 years after retiring from football.
