Jomtien and Dongtan beaches in Pattaya are currently seeing an increase in jellyfish, which, according to officials, may not pose a serious danger but could lead to skin irritation. The Pattaya News reporters noted that a significant number of jellyfish have been observed drifting in the water, particularly at Dongtan and Jomtien beaches. This occurrence typically arises during the late rainy season and early winter, or during storms. The jellyfish have been consistently spotted over the past 3-4 days.
Mr. Wallop Boonchu, a disaster prevention officer in Pattaya, indicated that the jellyfish in question are of the moon jellyfish species, which are not life-threatening but can cause itching and skin irritations upon contact. He emphasized that lifeguards should advise beachgoers to avoid touching them.
Mr. Kritsana Boonsawat, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, remarked that if a tourist does come into contact with a jellyfish, they should immediately rinse the affected area with vinegar to help alleviate irritation. He urged tourists to exercise caution while swimming in the sea during this period.
