In a shocking incident that unfolded on Pattaya Beach Road just one day before the city’s New Year’s celebration, a fierce brawl broke out between foreign tourists, reported to be of Indian nationality, and Thai locals. Disturbing footage of the altercation has gone viral on Thai social media.
The video, captured by local residents and joggers on December 28, 2023, shows both Thai and Indian men and women engaged in a violent clash near Soi 13 in the Nongprue sub-district. The participants wielded dangerous objects such as long sticks, belts, glass bottles, and even metal kitchen ladles, causing chaos and disruption on the busy Beach Road.
Despite the distressing cries of onlookers, no one dared to intervene, allowing the brawl to continue uninterrupted for an unknown period of time.
According to an eyewitness, the conflict began when an Indian woman crossed the road and confronted a Thai woman for reasons that remain unclear. The situation quickly escalated when the Indian woman called for backup, prompting the involvement of the Thai woman’s companions.
The incident has cast a dark shadow over Pattaya’s reputation as a peaceful tourist destination, especially as the town prepares for its grand New Year’s celebration. Authorities are currently investigating the incident and are expected to interview both parties involved, as well as review CCTV footage for potential legal action.
