Yesterday, 20 customers who claim to have been deceived by Kornkanok Suwannabut and her husband, Kanpol Rueng-aram, met with Pol Col Kraiwit Saenthaweesuk, chief investigator of the Consumer Protection Police Division, to push for legal action against the pair.
Anusorn Asurapong, the lawyer representing the complainants, stated that an additional 135 customers were unable to attend due to either residing in distant provinces or being overseas.
The total damages across the 155 complainants are estimated to be at least 2 million baht, according to the lawyer.
One complainant shared that they unsuccessfully attempted to file a report with Bor Win police in Chon Buri. The police allegedly refused to register the complaint, stating the customer was at fault for not verifying the quality of the jewelry before making the purchase.
Initially, the complainant hesitated to report the issue or involve the media, fearing potential defamation charges from the couple.
Pol Col Kraiwit mentioned that further investigation may be necessary to determine if the couple engaged in false advertising.
Kornkanok and Kanpol, widely known on social media as “Mae Tuck” and “Pa Beer,” are accused of selling jewelry with less gold content than advertised. Kornkanok reportedly sold the items during live social media sessions, claiming the business belonged to her husband.
Hundreds of disgruntled customers have since visited the couple’s gold shop in Bangkok, demanding refunds. The shop has maintained that full refunds will only be granted if customers return the jewelry along with the complimentary gifts included in the purchase.
Some frustrated customers, denied full refunds, were seen angrily throwing the gifts back at the shop. Others, however, agreed to the refunds and signed documents waiving their right to pursue legal action.
It has also been reported that the origin of some of the gold jewelry is unclear, preventing resale to other shops.
