Thailand’s Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) arrested a German pedophile for shooting and distributing child pornography involving his teenage stepdaughter from his home in Pattaya.
The 76 year old perverted expat, Wilfried Wilms, was taken into custody on Saturday, March 18 following an alert from the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency, which traced child pornography back to Wilms’s Meet4U and WhatsApp accounts.
During the arrest, the CCIB seized two mobile phones and a desktop computer from the German pedophile’s residence. According to the Pattaya Mail, the pedophile Wilms, who is married to a Thai woman with a 15 year old daughter, allegedly produced sex videos of the teenager and shared them online. The deviant confessed to shooting the videos himself.
The arrest of Wilms is part of a broader crackdown by Thai authorities on child pornography and exploitation, which has seen a significant increase in recent years. The CCIB, in particular, has been active in identifying and apprehending individuals who engage in such activities, often working in collaboration with foreign law enforcement agencies.
Pattaya has seen a number of cases involving child exploitation and pedophilia over the past few years.
Last month police found evidence of underage prostitution at Club 4, a go-go bar in Pattaya. Police ordered the closure of the bar in Soi Bong Koch 8, in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, for five years. A woman was arrested under suspicion of human trafficking.
In 2020, a 46 year old Canadian man was arrested in Pattaya for sexually abusing children and distributing child pornography.
Similarly, in 2019, a 60 year old Dutch national was arrested in Pattaya for producing and distributing child pornography after Thai authorities were tipped off by their Dutch counterparts. The accused had reportedly been living in Pattaya for several years, where he had established a network of contacts involved in the production and distribution of child pornography.
The case is a stark reminder of the dangers posed to vulnerable children by predators who use the Internet to exploit them. It also highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating these crimes, as well as the need for strict laws and penalties to deter such heinous acts.
