Keanu Reeves is having a moment, and it is truly deserved – for years the actor has secretly donated millions of dollars (of his own money) to good causes, he runs a private foundation that benefits cancer research and children’s hospitals and he takes pay cuts from films he’s worked on so others could star.
To top it off all, the dude’s set to reprise his role as one half of the classic 80s duo, alongside Alex Winter, for the anticipated threequel Bill and Ted Face the Music. Excellent.
Although most of us are used to seeing him looking rugged and, well, hairy for his roles in films such as John Wick 3, recent set photos show him donning a clean shaven look. Keanu, is that you?
The images were taken on the first day of filming for the third instalment of the Bill & Tedfranchise, as the 54-year-old actor stepped out in New Orleans.
Yes, he’s 54 years old. Safe to say the dude is ageing like a fine wine.
The pictures confirm filming is set to start, marking an exciting moment in the movie’s development. As said, Reeves will star alongside Winter, with both reprising their roles as the titular characters.
Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine will be joining the cast too as Bill’s daughter Thea and Ted’s daughter Billie respectively, as well as returning stars such as Amy Stoch (Missy), Hal Landon Jr. (Ted’s father) and William Sadler (Death).
The film is set to arrive on 21 August 2020, nearly 30 years since the 1991 sequel Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, which followed Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, released back in 1989. Feel old yet?
Apparently Face the Music will stay true to the franchise, picking up with the best friends well into their middle age as they are met by a figure from the future who warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe.
Down on their luck, the pair will set off on another inter-dimensional journey through space and time, aided by their kids and a host of new historical characters and music legends.
Keanu himself assured in an interview last year that the threequel will please audiences new and old, stating: “Over the years it’s been really nice to connect with people who love those characters and those films, and it’s been fun to hear from fans who have become parents who have shown it to their kids.
“The ebullient spirit of [Bill and Ted], and the humour of the characters in the film, and the adventure they go on – I think it’s still funny.”
