Former Mayor Arrested at Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Former Pattaya mayor and former Thai Minister of Culture Mr. Itthiphol Khunpluem fled Thailand for Cambodia by plane after being sought for allegedly misusing his position to grant the Waterfront condo project the wrong construction permission.
For the fugitive former Pattaya mayor, Itthiphol Kunplome, who escaped an arrest warrant connected to his role in the Waterfront condominium project to Cambodia in order to avoid potential legal repercussions, efforts are being undertaken to stop the statute of limitations from running out.
When Mr. Itthiphol arrived from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 9th, immigration officers detained him. For his corruption case, he was taken to the Office of the Attorney General Region 2.

After the arrest order was issued, Mr. Itthiphol confidently smiled and told the media, “I have returned to Thailand with my lawyer.” He didn’t say anything else.

Itthiphol is charged with allegations of corruption in connection with the Pattaya Waterfront Condo project, a long-running white elephant at Bali Hai Pier.

He was still being held as of the time of publication, and it is unclear if his charges will result in a bail decision.
