Foreign man annoyed by a neighbour’s barking dog

A foreigner frustrated by a neighbor’s barking dog nearly crashed his motorcycle into the neighbor’s fence and gave them an offensive gesture. The situation was resolved amicably with the help of tourist police.

The incident took place at a prominent housing estate in Nong Bua Subdistrict, Mueang District. Ms. Nuamnuan, 45, reported to the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station that on August 18 at 9:36 PM, a foreign man named Mr. Franz, while riding his motorcycle, honked his horn, collided with her gate, and made an obscene hand gesture. She provided video evidence of the incident.

Local police involved the Udon Thani Tourist Police to mediate. That evening, the tourist police visited the scene and brought Mr. Franz to Ms. Nuamnuan’s house for mediation. Nuamnuan expressed her frustration with Mr. Franz’s aggressive behavior and the damage to her gate. Mr. Franz initially offered 1,000 baht for the damages, but Nuamnuan asked for 3,000 baht instead.

After negotiation, with the assistance of the tourist police, Mr. Franz agreed to pay 1,500 baht. He admitted that his actions stemmed from frustration with the loud, uncontrolled barking of Nuamnuan’s dog and assured it would not happen again. Nuamnuan accepted his apology and the agreed-upon compensation.

Both parties shook hands in front of the police, agreeing to drop the matter and to be considerate neighbors. Nuamnuan clarified that her dog is generally not aggressive and only barks loudly when someone tries to enter her property. She noted that the dog’s barking was triggered by Mr. Franz’s actions that night, but the situation was resolved positively.
