A tragic accident occurred early this morning on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya, resulting in the death of a 57-year-old Thai man and injuries to his son. The incident took place at 5:36 AM on June 10th in the Banglamung district of Chonburi province, as the father and son were en route to a hospital for a medical appointment.
Banglamung police and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation quickly responded to the scene. They discovered a badly damaged Honda Scoopy motorcycle overturned on the road. Nearby, they found Mr. Santi Srithongchai, 57, who was unconscious and severely injured. Despite first aid efforts and CPR attempts, Mr. Santi tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His son, Mr. Anan Srithongchai, 34, sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by rescue workers.
Eyewitness Mr. Phitak Chamsaowarot, 20, reported seeing a minibus parked on the side of the road, partially obstructing the lane, before the accident occurred. Although he did not witness the collision itself, he heard a loud bang and discovered the injured victims on the road. The minibus and its driver had fled the scene by the time Mr. Phitak arrived.
CCTV footage reviewed by Banglamung police revealed that the minibus was parked with its hazard lights on, partially blocking the left lane. The footage showed the minibus driver sitting on the footpath when the motorcycle crashed into the back of the vehicle. The driver then hastily drove off, leaving the scene. Banglamung police are currently searching for the minibus driver for questioning.
Mr. Anan, the surviving son, later informed The Pattaya News reporters that he was taking his father to a hospital for a scheduled doctor appointment when the accident occurred.
