Chelsea forward Marc Guiu may have recorded one of the worst misses of the season during their Europa Conference League match against Servette.
Enzo Maresca made nine changes to his Chelsea lineup for the first leg of the play-off against Servette, who are currently fifth in the Swiss Pro League. Newcomers Tosin Adarabioyo and Filip Jorgensen made their debuts, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Pedro Neto, Renato Veiga, and Guiu earned their first starts.
Guiu, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona this summer, had previously appeared as a substitute in their Premier League opener against Manchester City. However, his latest performance included a notable miss from an open goal early in the second half, which left fans shocked.
Social media reactions highlighted the moment, with one user saying, “Marc Guiu with the worst miss I’ve ever seen,” while another remarked, “Guiu may have just missed the easiest chance in football history.” Others acknowledged the Servette goalkeeper’s effort in not giving up on the play: “Special mention must go to the Servette goalkeeper.”
Despite the criticism, another fan supported Guiu, stating, “Everybody has off moments, but his dedication and hard work are undeniable. He’ll bounce back stronger.” Guiu scored once during Chelsea’s pre-season tour in America and recently expressed his enthusiasm for playing in the Premier League after the club activated his £5 million release clause.
“It was a tough decision, but an amazing opportunity,” Guiu said. “Maresca told me about an exciting sporting project full of young talent and that he had faith in my skills.” He concluded, “I think I’m ready. We work hard every day, both physically and technically, so I believe I can contribute to the team when needed.”
