At approximately 2 p.m. on July 26, an aggressive pit bull attacked neighbors in front of their homes near Wang Hin Soi 5, Surasak Sub-district. The Sriracha Police Department responded quickly to emergency calls and rushed a local rescue squad to the scene.
When first responders arrived, they discovered two people injured as a result of the pit bull’s rampage. Wisit Sonthayaphilat, 73, was the first casualty, suffering bites below his left brow and right pinky finger. Residents had already brought the second victim, an elderly woman, to the hospital after she was knocked down and injured by the aggressive dog.
Siripong, a 56-year-old tofu vendor who witnessed the incident while selling his food on Soi 5 in Bangkok, described the terrifying scene. According to him, the brown and white pit bull came out of a nearby house and began assaulting innocent bystanders. The old woman was knocked to the ground by the dog’s unjustified attack, and the dog continued to maul her. Wisit, who happened to be passing by at the time, tried to help valiantly but was also attacked by the wild dog.
As the situation deteriorated, the dog’s owner arrived on the scene in an attempt to regain control of the hostile beast. Unfortunately, the pit bull’s tremendous agitation made it difficult for the owner to effectively restrain it. The owner used a leash as a final resort to secure the dog’s mouth, however the dog died as a result of asphyxiation during the incident.
The injured people were given immediate medical attention and first aid by rescue services before being taken to Phyathai Sriracha Hospital for further treatment and care.
Wisit gave his version of the horrifying occurrence from his hospital bed, explaining how he was just walking through the area when he saw the dog attack the old lady. The pit bull leapt at him as he attempted to assist her. His instinctual defense efforts resulted in excruciating injuries to his face and hand.
The event has being investigated by local authorities in order to establish what variables contributed to the pit bull’s aggressive conduct. During the continuing inquiry, the dog’s owner is collaborating with police.
Pit bulls, noted for their strength and power, require careful ownership and socialization beginning at a young age. Authorities are advising all dog owners to be cautious and ensure that their pets are properly handled and taught to avoid attacks on people or other animals.
The Sriracha Police Station will work with animal welfare organizations and specialists to understand the facts surrounding the pit bull’s aggressive behavior and the unfortunate ending as the investigation continues.
