Former Olympic swimmer Scott Miller, who was jailed for his involvement in a Sydney meth and heroin ring, is set to be released on parole after serving over three years in prison. The 49-year-old, known for his success in butterfly events, was sentenced to five years and six months in late 2022 after pleading guilty to large-scale commercial drug supply.
Miller played a “central role” in transporting $2.2 million worth of methamphetamine from Sydney to the regional town of Yass, approximately 280 km away, in 2021. His parole was granted by the NSW Parole Authority, which assessed him as being at low risk of reoffending and noted his ongoing tertiary studies during incarceration.
NSW Community Corrections reported that Miller has a long history of substance abuse but appears to have gained some insight into his problematic behavior. His release conditions include strict supervision, a prohibition on drug use, and no contact with former co-offenders.
Miller first gained international recognition at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, where he won in both the butterfly and medley relay events.
