Drug suspect Ex-Miss Teen Thailand sacked by TV contract
Ex-Miss Teen Thailand winner “Amy” has been sacked from her lucrative TV contract after being arrested on drug charges.
Amelia “Amy” Jacobs apologized profusely on her way into the police station today, but few seem to be in a forgiving mood. The Miss Teen Thailand 2006 was arrested yesterday for serious drug offenses and has already been sacked from her contract with a Thai TV station.
She is likely facing charges that include possession of drugs with intent to sell, which could land her a lengthy prison sentence and end her days as an in-demand celebrity.
The managing director of Broadcast Thai Television Co, Anocha Panupan, which employed Amelia, 28, announced that she was released a year early from her contract for damaging the company’s reputation after her arrest. She appeared on their Channel 7 drama, “Thida Wanorn,” which translates as Monkey’s Daughter, reported The Nation.
The police have moved fast as well. This morning, they were already going through her banking records and mobile phone, trying to locate her suppliers and customers after she admitted last night to being involved in drug dealing for the past year with her boyfriend, Poonyawat Hirantecha, 40.
Their Bangkok home was raided yesterday and police found 70 grams of ya ice, or crystal methamphetamine, 16 tablets of ecstasy, and various drug paraphernalia.
That night, as Amelia was walked into Sai Mai Police Station to hear charges and for a press conference, she cried while apologizing, saying she was so sorry and to give her a chance to change
She is expected to appear at Minburi Court today or tomorrow and may be detained until trial.
