A tragic hit-and-run incident on Sukhumvit Road in the Sattahip district of Chon Buri claimed the life of a 73-year-old Swiss cyclist late on Sunday night.

Local authorities were alerted to the accident around 11.30 pm near tambon Na Jomtien. Upon arrival, they found the elderly cyclist unconscious, and despite resuscitation efforts, he could not be revived, as reported by Bangkok Post.

The cyclist suffered severe injuries to his head and the right side of his body, with his black bicycle left destroyed at the scene, illustrating the gravity of the tragedy.

Eyewitness testimonies mentioned a speeding car that collided with the cyclist, briefly slowing down before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim behind.

Investigations are ongoing, with the identity of the victim withheld until his next of kin are informed.

Another recent incident in the area involved the discovery of a foreign individual’s body along the Sattahip – Korat road in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri by Huay Yai Provincial Police Station. The victim, suspected to be an expatriate aged between 60 to 70, was found submerged in water with a fatal neck injury.

Evidence at the site, including a damaged bicycle and a black pickup truck, suggested a collision had occurred. The pickup truck driver, identified as Samreang Unan, admitted to the collision with cyclist Win Scherrenberg, claiming the cyclist abruptly changed lanes.

The investigation, lacking CCTV footage, heavily relied on eyewitness reports and physical evidence. Consulates were engaged to assist in confirming the victim’s identity and providing additional support for the inquiry.
