A 42-year-old South Korean man, deported and blacklisted in 2017, has been arrested in Pattaya for illegal entry and suspected involvement in drug trafficking.
Identified only as “Hun” by police, he was apprehended at an apartment on Pattaya Sai 3 Road on Monday, according to Pol Maj Gen Panthana Nuchanart, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau.
Hun did not possess a visa or entry stamp in his passport and admitted to crossing into Thailand from Cambodia via Sa Kaeo province.
Pol Maj Gen Panthana noted that Hun had previously been deported in 2017 for crystal meth and overstaying his visa, leading to his blacklisting by immigration authorities.
During the arrest, police discovered drug paraphernalia in his room, which Hun claimed belonged to a Thai woman who had been staying with him. He tested negative for drug use.
According to Pol Maj Gen Panthana, Hun had been in Pattaya for two weeks, and police suspect he was sourcing drugs for smuggling back to South Korea. Some arrested smugglers had implicated him in supplying the drugs.
Hun is currently facing charges of illegal entry and is in custody as the investigation continues.
