Dave Bautista's Action Sequel Now on Prime Video

Dave Bautista’s action-packed sequel, My Spy: The Eternal City, is now available to watch on Prime Video. Teaming up once again with Chloe Coleman, the duo returns to save the world in this thrilling follow-up to the 2020 hit film My Spy.

In My Spy: The Eternal City, Bautista reprises his role as veteran CIA operative JJ, while Coleman plays his now 14-year-old stepdaughter Sophie. The plot centers on their efforts to prevent a nuclear disaster, reuniting to tackle the high-stakes mission.

The movie also features returning stars Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal, known for their roles in Community and Bob’s Burgers, respectively. New additions to the cast include Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, and Flula Borg. Directed by Pete Segal, the film is set five years after the events of the first movie.

Now a teenager, Sophie is eager for independence and is deeply involved in her school choir, which is set to tour Italy, culminating in a performance for the Pope in Vatican City. However, her plans for a memorable trip take a turn when JJ volunteers as a chaperone, leading them into a terrorist plot that disrupts their holiday adventure.

The original My Spy faced release challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with its cinema debut in the UK on March 13, 2020, followed by a streaming release in the US on June 26. Despite receiving a modest 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film secured a sequel in February 2023, bringing Bautista and Coleman back for more action.

Reflecting on the sequel, Bautista expressed his enjoyment of the filming process during an interview on Today: “I wish it could always be that good. Not only was I filming with family, but the locations we filmed in were just so beautiful.”

Both Bautista and Ken Jeong praised Chloe Coleman’s performance, with Jeong highlighting that she “is the heart and soul of the movie.”

My Spy: The Eternal City has garnered mixed reviews, with IGN noting, “The movie isn’t always painful to watch, but the ride never smooths out; it’s bumpy the whole way through.” Despite the varied reception, fans of the original film are likely to enjoy the new adventure now streaming on Prime Video.
