A tragic incident unfolded at Brazil’s busiest airport, Guarulhos International, where Antonio Vinicius Lopes Gritzbach, a cryptocurrency businessman, was shot dead. The attack, which occurred on Friday, also left three individuals injured, heightening concerns about organized crime in the region.
Gritzbach, who had been targeted previously with death threats by the notorious First Command of the Capital (Primeiro Comando da Capital, PCC), was reportedly in the midst of a plea agreement with local authorities, aimed at disclosing information regarding his connections to the criminal organization.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunmen in a black vehicle opened fire at the airport. Two of the injured victims were quickly transported to a nearby hospital, while reports indicated that a woman was also hurt in the crossfire.
The Secretary of Security for São Paulo stated that the motivation behind the murder is currently under investigation. Local media speculate that Gritzbach’s death may be linked to organized crime activities, a rising concern in Brazil’s financial landscape. Compelling footage shared on social media captures the aftermath, showing one victim lying on the ground in Terminal 2, primarily serving domestic flights, and another person stranded outside the terminal on an access road.
As investigations proceed, the incident raises urgent questions about the intersection of cryptocurrency, crime, and safety in Brazil.
