Clash in Pattaya: Five Injured in Brawl Between Thais and Indians
Incident Overview
A violent altercation between two Thai women and two Indian men in Pattaya, Chonburi province, left five people injured on Thursday. The fight, which took place on the street near Pattaya Beach, was broken up by officers from the Pattaya police station.
The Cause of the Conflict
According to the two Thai women, who requested to remain anonymous, they were spending time at the beach when the Indian men approached them with the apparent intention of striking up a conversation. One of the women claimed that one of the men used his mobile phone to film them, prompting her to ask him to delete the video, out of concern that it could be used for illicit purposes.
The man refused to comply with her request, leading to a heated verbal argument that soon escalated into physical violence. In an attempt to defend themselves, one of the women grabbed a stick and tried to strike the men, which prompted the two men to flee the scene, running toward Pattaya Walking Street.
The Aftermath and Further Injuries
As the two Indian men fled, a motorist reported that they accidentally scratched his car and broke the left side-view mirror. Meanwhile, a Thai motorcycle taxi rider who intervened in an attempt to assist the women was injured, being struck in the knees and right eye by one of the Indian men during the altercation.
Police Action and Investigation
When Pattaya police arrived at the scene, they broke up the confrontation, finding that all four individuals involved—both women and both men—had sustained injuries. Additionally, the Thai motorcyclist was also hurt.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the sequence of events leading up to the fight and to establish who initiated the violence. Police have promised to ensure justice for all parties involved.
