A heartbreaking incident occurred in Chon Buri province when a newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a temple bathroom, sparking public outrage and a police investigation. The baby was discovered wrapped in a towel and covered with a pink cloth, in the secluded Wat Khao Pong Saket Phutthacharn temple, surrounded by large trees.
The discovery was made on September 20 when a monk alerted the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre in Pattaya City. The monk found the baby in the bathroom of the temple, located in Moo 5, Takhian Tia subdistrict, Bang Lamung district. Rescue volunteers arrived quickly at the scene—a quiet and serene temple—where locals and monks had gathered. The newborn, described as a fair-skinned baby girl, was left wrapped in a towel, with ants crawling on the pink cloth, but was fortunately unharmed. She was transferred to Bang Lamung Hospital for medical care.
Phra Kham Nipapho, a 48-year-old monk at the temple, recounted the discovery. While having coffee in the morning, he heard a baby crying. After an initial search, he could not locate the source of the cries. However, when the crying continued, he approached the bathroom, where the door was tightly shut. Upon opening it, he found the abandoned baby and immediately sought help from locals and notified the police.
Among the concerned villagers was Somporn, a 50-year-old woman who had come to make merit at the temple. She expressed her desire to adopt the baby, as she has no children or grandchildren of her own. Villagers gathered around, discussing the tragic situation and expressing relief that the baby was not found by monitor lizards, which are common in the area and could have posed a significant danger.
Somporn and others condemned the parents’ actions, comparing the abandonment to discarding an animal. “It’s fortunate that the baby was not harmed by any wild animals. The parents’ actions are despicable,” one local remarked.
Local police, led by Police Colonel Navin Sinthurat, Superintendent of Bang Lamung Police Station, arrived to document the scene and gather evidence. An investigation has been launched to trace the parents responsible and hold them accountable for the act, as reported by credit KhaoSod.
